San Carlo Heritage collaboration

Two Birmingham businesses, San Carlo & Heritage Collection, are working together to create a wonderful city centre dining experience.

Birmingham based San Carlo Group opened its first restaurant back in 1992, in temple street Birmingham. At the time, the humble 20 table restaurant was supplied by fellow brummies, Heritage Silverware. San Carlo went on to open a second restaurant in Bristol in 1996, expanding into Leicester and Manchester in the late 90s.

Managed by two generations of the Distefano family, the San Carlo group has now grown to become a £60 million restaurant empire, comprising 17 Italian restaurants across the UK. The group also have an overseas presence in Kuwait, Bangkok, and Qatar with new sites set to open in Bahrain, Dubai, and Riyadh.

San Carlo is currently expanding its Birmingham presence. The new Fumo restaurant and cocktail bar at Selfridges recently opened, located on the 4th floor with views overlooking the iconic Bullring. The restaurant serves seasonal Italian small plate dishes, with many of its fine ingredients sourced from fresh produce markets in Milan and Sicily. A San Carlo Cafe also opened recentlyn on Floor 1, offering a stylish yet informal menu of San Carlo’s own made luxury gelato, gourmet sandwiches, cakes, sundaes, cake shakes and afternoon tea.

Marcello Distefano took time out of his busy schedule to say a few words:

“We were delighted to work again with Heritage Collection for the opening of Fumo, Selfridges. As a business originating from Birmingham, it is particularly satisfying to be collaborating with a fellow local business. Heritage is a renowned Birmingham tableware manufacturer and we are working on new and exciting ideas for our latest venture.”

Heritage worked with San Carlo to furnish the new Fumo restaurant with carefully chosen cutlery manufactured by their factory in Small Heath, Birmingham and will also be supplying tableware for the new gran café. We hope to continue to forge a strong relationship to support San Carlo’s ongoing success.

Chairman of Heritage, Martin McDonagh said he was delighted and honored that San Carlo have chosen tableware from our factory; “To have such an iconic group back Birmingham business is great for our region and its future prosperity.”
